1955

Michael H. Kuryla was a member of a family of mining engineers and President of ASARCO. His firstborn, Michael A. Kuryla Sr., also known as “Don Michael,” worked with him for several years until 1955, when he migrated to Peru with his family, assuming the position of General Manager at Cerro de Pasco Copper Corporation.

1960

In 1960, Michael A. Kuryla Jr., the firstborn of Don Michael and father of current Master Distiller Michael Alexis Kuryla, ventured into making what would be his first and only batch of 32 bottles of vodka. His father bought the entire batch on the condition that he would not produce any more alcoholic beverages.

2012

In 2012, the eldest son of Michael Kuryla Jr., Michael Alexis Kuryla, arrived in Peru at the request of entrepreneurs associated with his family. He settled in La Merced (Chanchamayo) to build and manage the facilities of an IQF plant for the company Selva Frozen Foods.

2015

In Chanchamayo, he met Daiana Milon Mayer, who served as quality control manager for the same company, and Michael Alexis Kuryla married her in 2015. During those years, Michael also founded a construction company and set up a distillery with a series of small stills. This experience played a crucial role in the ideation, creation, and history of Black Whiskey and the Don Michael distillery.

2017

During the years Michael and Daiana spent in La Merced, they began to explore and experiment with whiskey production from Peruvian purple corn. After a period of trials, trial and error, in 2017, they decided to draft a business plan, raise funds, and plan the launch of Don Michael S.A.C. distillery in Lima. Finally, in 2018, the distillery was operational.

2024

A la fecha, Don Michael S.A.C. ya es considerada la mejor destilería en Sudamérica: somos la destilería más galardonada y nuestro portafolio se exporta a más de 12 países y ha obtenido grandes reconocimientos internacionales.
